I'm delighted to share that my article, Pilates for Kids: Where to Start, has been published by The Core, Balanced Body®'s educational platform for Pilates professionals.
Since founding Kids Pilates in Action in 2015, I have had the privilege of working with children of different ages, personalities, and abilities. Over the years, this journey has taught me that teaching Pilates to children is not simply a matter of adapting exercises. It requires understanding how children learn, communicate, and engage with movement.
Pilates is a sophisticated method that was originally developed for adults. One of the challenges—and joys—of working with children is finding ways to present its principles in a way that is meaningful, enjoyable, and appropriate for their stage of development. Through this process, I have developed educational strategies and teaching tools that help children build body awareness, confidence, coordination, and a positive relationship with movement.
I wrote this article to help other instructors interested in teaching children who may be unsure where to begin. My hope is that by supporting more instructors on this path, we can make children's Pilates more accessible and help more families find quality movement programmes for their children.
I would like to thank the team at Balanced Body® for the opportunity to contribute to their publication and help raise awareness of children's Pilates within our profession.
